The inspirational beauty and splendour of the Underberg countryside has long been an attraction for recreational visitors to the Southern Drakensberg.
Arts & Crafts
Less well known is that this aspect of our area has also drawn many artists and craftspeople to make their homes in the district.
Alongside touristic amenities and facilities the Southern Drakensberg also hosts an art route populated by galleries and studios where a variety of artists, including painters, potters and other makers of fine craft, display their wares, and where visitors and guests can enjoy the individual styles and genres of these artists.
In addition local craft initiatives supported by the KwaSani Municipality provide a platform through which craft marketing, product quality, design & training and distribution can be facilitated.
Rock Art
Members of the public may visit rock art sites at Cobham and Garden Castle with an approved rock art tour guide or a member of the KZN Wildlife staff.
It is recommended that prior arrangements be made with the relevant Officer- in-Charge should you wish to visit these sites so that a Field Ranger is made available for your visit.

Sites of Historical Interest
Himeville Museum Open Tue-Sat 9am–3pm, Sun 9am–12.30pm. Closed Mon. The last laager/fort built in SA completed in 1899 and converted to a prison complex from 1902 to 1971. An acclaimed rural history museum with a furnished house and varied displays in the old prison cells, such as the new Rock Art display, School room, Post office and others. Reichenau Mission In 1886 German Trappist Monks invited by Chief Sakhayedwa, moved from Mariannhill to establish a school, mill, butchery, bakery, farm and forge along the Pholela River. Accredited guides to the Mission buildings, the Pholela River and Enhlanhleni Zulu Village. (Route T1)
