The Himeville Museum and Fort is a beautifully preserved heritage site featuring the original 1899 fort and prison, along with an impressive collection of exhibits showcasing the history and cultures of the region. Each room highlights a different era or theme — from early settlement and farming to education, communication, and everyday life.

A key feature of the museum is its representation of the diverse communities that shaped the area. Exhibits include Stone Age fossils and artefacts, Khoi/San history with nearby rock art sites, Boer War and World War displays, wildlife, traditional tools, the early post office and telephone exchange, an old schoolroom, and an original prison cell. The central courtyard offers a peaceful, shaded garden space for visitors to rest.

The museum is well maintained and supported by knowledgeable staff who provide helpful insights into the area’s past.
