The district boasts a very active sports scene. Underberg Country Club remains a vibrant sporting location with cricket, squash and polocrosse sections supplementing the all important golf course. Touch rugby and hockey also take place there.
There are 3 golf courses in the district. Underberg Country Club has an active golf section with regular tournaments. Sani Pass Hotel has a picturesque nine hole course while Drakensberg gardens Hotel has an 18 hole course as part of the Drakensberg gardens Golf Club, complete with clubhouse and restaurant overlooking the course which is deep in the mountains.
Tennis is available at Himeville Tennis Club and bowls at Underberg Bowling Club. A number of active soccer teams participate in the area.
A number of service associations operate in the area including Round Table and Rotary.
On the environmental front, there is a local branch of WESSA (The Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa) and the Southern Drakensberg Honorary Officers group of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, Wildlife ACT and Endangered Wildlife Trust are also active in the area.
