Established in 1886 under the leadership of Abbot Francis Pfanner, Reichenau Mission was the first mission of the Mariannhill Monastery in KwaZulu-Natal. Nestled along the Pholela River in the foothills of the Drakensberg World Heritage Site, it remains a historic landmark well worth visiting.

The site features a fully restored, water-driven mill, originally powered by the Pholela River. Ground maize is sold at the mission or at Lemon Tree Bistro in Underberg. This maize is unbleached and has no preservatives.
