In 1998, Simone and Russell Suchet, owners of Fair Trade in Tourism Certified Sani Lodge on the Sani Pass 19km from Underberg, recognised the need for a tour company offering action packed, affordable and sustainable tours up Sani Pass and into Lesotho from 1 to 7 days in duration.
Russell has used his extensive knowledge of both the Drakensberg and Lesotho to set up a variety of professionally run tours aimed at the tourist seeking a trip with content! The tours have been designed not only to give quality and value for money, but also to benefit communities and the national park areas in the countries visited, earning recognition for ‘’Best Practice by the Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation. Community tourism is about sustainable and environment-friendly practice, and Drakensberg Adventures was awarded a Silver Award at the prestigious African Responsible Tourism Awards ceremony in Cape Town for Poverty Reduction in communities in Lesotho, KwaZulu Natal and the Khomani bushmen in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
When you join a tour with Drakensberg Adventures, you Adventure Travel Responsibly!
Our tours include a day trip up the winding, picturesque and dramatic Sani Pass surrounded by the magnificent Drakensberg Park, guided hiking to the highest peak south of Kilimanjaro, pony trekking to remote villages, cultural infusion of dancing to music with shepherds playing their traditional handmade instruments, visits to view ingenious artistry in hidden rock art sites and even abseiling for the ultra-adventurous.
